About Us

Urbanwise.London is an educational charity and was established in 1983. We were previously known as Hammersmith and Fulham Urban Studies Centre.

Our small team has extensive experience in engaging and teaching people of all ages about their local area. We offer a range of different programmes to schools, families, adults and community groups, including learning materials which we have developed ourselves.

Our Mission Statement:

Urbanwise.London exists to develop the hearts and minds of young people and adults, inspiring them to become active citizens who can make positive changes in their local community and wider environment.

Our aims are to:

• Promote active outdoor learning in the local environment
• Empower young people to take positive action on climate change
• Inspire people to discover their London

For schools: We offer a Local Studies programme of education sessions linked to the National Curriculum and a range of environmental projects during the school day. We also offer after school clubs focused on the local environment, wellbeing and  sustainable arts and crafts.

Our programmes link strongly to climate education, supporting young people to address the issues of climate change and sustainability. We support a creative curriculum by offering memorable experiences outside of the classroom and emphasise active learning grounded in young people’s experience and perspective.

Check out our Schools Programme for healthy outdoor learning sessions for your class.

For Teachers: We deliver training in Outdoor Learning and Geography Fieldwork for primary schools.

For Adults, Families and Community Groups:  We offer guided walks and visits to places of interest with a focus on culture, heritage, wildlife and wellbeing. We run a range of workshops focusing on art, environmental crafts, sustainability and coding for beginners. We can also offer bespoke Discover Your London short courses to local residents and community groups.

For Work Teams: We can offer discovery tours of the local area and The City of London with a City of London guide.
