Urbanwise.London is an educational charity which was established in 1983 and was previously known as Hammersmith and Fulham Urban Studies Centre.
We have a wealth of experience in engaging people in learning about their local environment and offer a range of different programmes to schools and adult groups.
We aim to:
- Promote active outdoor learning in the local environment
- Empower young people to take positive action on climate change
- Inspire people to discover their London
The Centre’s small team has extensive teaching experience with children, young people and adults and are experienced in developing learning materials relating to the local area for all age groups.
For schools, We offer a Local Studies programme of education sessions linked to the National Curiculum and a range of environmental projects during the school day. We also offer after school clubs focused on the local environment, sustainable arts and crafts and coding.
Our programmes link strongly to climate education, supporting young people to address the issues of climate change and sustainability. We support a creative curriculum by offering memorable experiences outside of the classroom and emphasise active learning grounded in young people’s experience and perspective.

For Teachers: We deliver training in Outdoor Learning and Geography Fieldwork for primary schools. We also facilitate the Good Practice Network for geography and history co-ordinators for primary schools in Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster.
For Adults, Families and Community Groups: We offer guided walks and visits to places of interest with a focus on culture, heritage, wildlife and wellbeing. We run a range of workshops focusing on art, environmental crafts, sustainability and coding for beginners. We can also offer bespoke Discover Your London short courses to local residents and community groups.
For Work Teams: We can offer discovery tours of the local area and The City of London with a City of London guide.
