Internship with HFUSC
My name is Khairunnisa and I’m a Masters student from Brunei Darussalam. I joined HFUSC in December as part of my Environmental Internship module under King’s College London. I came here with the expectation to learn about how small charities can make an impact in the community. The first few days volunteering with the organisation I can already observe the commitment and passion of the staff at HFUSC in delivering their aim to help young people understand the importance of sustainability.
On my first day, Carlos brought me to St. Peter’s CE Primary School where I was able to witness first-hand how HFUSC runs the School Travel Project. It was inspiring to see the way the project has contributed to making the children become more aware about the environment, and to make a connection between their lifestyle and how they can make their community safer, healthier and more sustainable. I am also helping with the Tales of the Thames Path project, another fantastic initiative to enable the students appreciate the rich history of the Thames River and the heritage surrounding it.

It was interesting to learn about the heritage of the buildings during the walking tour.

It’s eye-opening to discover a different side of London!
In the next few months, I will also be helping with the Children’s Parliament on the Environment Project. We will be engaging Year 6 students from several schools in Hammersmith & Fulham as well as Kensington & Chelsea Boroughs. I look forward to my time with HFUSC and gaining as much knowledge and skills along the way!
