On Wednesday 14th October we will be walking along Portobello Road looking for clues to the fascinating history of this area. October is Black History Month so we will be focussing in particular on the rich diversity of Portobello Road, and surrounding areas and discovering some of the stories about the birth of the Notting Hill Carnival. Old Oak on the Scrubs!
Urban STEAM Project Friday 18th Sept FIELD TRIP TIME! This week we went hunting on the scrubs, recapping on our learning last we thought about what materials different designers may use and the importance of trying to source materials locally. Unanimously, the children decided that what ever they built or designed, they wanted it to be made from local materials in order to be more sustainable ‘Yes they know what this word means, they are a bright bunch!’ We searched and collected natural materials which we took back to school to analyse and classify into groups. New Urban STEAM project at Old Oak Primary School
Week One: Friday 11th September Friday 11th launched the start of an uber exciting project at Old Oak Primary School called Urban STEAM. This project does exactly what every school project should ‘say on their tin’. It is child led with their thoughts and ideas leading the direction of the project. Facilitator Lydia helped to steer the direction with her knowledge and input of STEAM. One session in and the child knew that they wanted to investigate a design problem and find a design solution regarding the HS2 and Oakland’s development (being right on their doorstep).
